The Canals of Xochimilco

Along the canals of Xochimilco, you’ll find gondola-esque boats floating along the river. It’s Mexico’s best rendition of Venice, accompanied by some very chaotic scenes. Once known for its water transport systems (and built by the Aztecs), these days, it’s just an excuse for travellers and locals to enjoy the free-flowing alcoholic beverages outdoors. It’s a truly sensory experience on the water, with mariachi bands and floating food vendors.
