Charyn Canyon

Although it’s typically known for its giant steppe, Kazakhstan’s offerings include some insanely impressive red rock formations carved by the winding river – at its deepest some 300 metres. I embarked on a weekend adventure with my Almaty friends, Piot, Nuli, Lene and Yuliya for some white water rafting, local feasting and then, at last, a beautiful hike through the gorge of Charyn Canyon.
