Khiva’s Sandcastles

While on a morning run in Khiva, I stumbled upon a breathtaking view of the fort wall. I knew I had to capture the moment, so I returned with my camera to capture the beautiful light. This image has become one of my favourites. Still, I can't help but think about the harrowing past of this town as it was once a bustling slave market and a critical stopover for caravans travelling long distances along the Silk Road.
